A generaton of Hirds

My family, as small as it is, has always been entrepreneurial in spirit, working hard to carve out a unique path in life. The Hird name has appeared on many different signs throughout the decades for an eclectic mix of businesses, including ‘Hird’s New Milk Ices’ owned by my great-grandad. He was a dairy farmer, master joiner and ice-cream man.

One of his original signs now sits pride of place in my kitchen as a gentle reminder of the talented Hirds that came before me. He painted all of the lettering by hand, which means a lot to someone who loves type as much as I do.
